Late Thursday night, unidentified assailants shot a young man identified as Deepak Jaiswara near his residence in Gosai Bagan, ward number seven of Rishra Municipality in Hooghly district. Responding to the incident, the victim's family swiftly arrived at the scene and transported the injured youth, soaked in blood, to Sriramapur Walsh Hospital.
The medical staff at Sriramapur Walsh Hospital referred him to SK Hospital in Kolkata, where he is currently undergoing critical treatment. According to police sources, Deepak Jaiswara is employed at Hastings Jute Mill and has a criminal history, having previously served time in jail for a murder case.
Rishra Municipality Chairman and local councilor Vijay Sagar Mishra also reached the spot upon hearing the news. The police suspect that the shooting may be linked to an old or mutual rivalry based on initial investigations.
